Hamden: On January 13, 2010, students from the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden received their new ranks. Shihan (Master) Frank Ciarleglio a Fifth Degree Black Belt Instructor and Test Administrator worked with the students and evaluated their performance. “The testing process at the Academy is to evaluate the students’ ability to perform the martial arts movements that they learn in their classes, but that is not all. The students must also demonstrate an understanding of what they learned and be able to apply it in a self-defense situation,” said Ciarleglio.

“We teach to our students that the martial arts are about self-improvement. As any life experience a test will reveal what someone is doing well in and what someone is struggling in. When someone does well with something, it is because either it comes natural to them or it is because of the hard work and effort that was put into that area of training. However, when an individual is struggling with something that is the time to set a goal to improve it, these philosophies are life lesson that we help our student to apply at the dojo and in all areas of their life. At the Academy our goal is for our students to be able to defend themselves from an attacker and to also give them the tools to succeed with their goals, whether they are martial arts related or not,” said Ciarleglio.

The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts would like to congratulate these students for their achievements. Adult Ranks (adults and teens): Orange Belts – A Lindon Cummings.
