Hamden: Throughout the months of September and October, the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts held their sixth annual push-up challenge. This challenge was designed by Shihan Frank Ciarleglio to help motivate the students to become better with their push-ups. “The goal is to compete with yourself to become better and better - that is one of the most important aspects of the Martial Arts, self-improvement” said Ciarleglio.

For those who find that competing with others is their motivator, Ciarleglio has designed the challenge so there is a competition within the individual classes, (separated by age and levels) as well as a competition throughout the Academy. Ciarleglio monitored everyone’s improvements and coached the students on how to improve. “To improve in any task it takes motivation, self-discipline and hard work at the correct things. So many people set goals to improve their way of life and work very hard but are not working at the correct things and get nowhere. It is important to have a plan of action and surround yourself with other goal-oriented people as well as work with someone who can guide you if you need help to achieve your goal”, Ciarleglio said.

The Academy of Kempo would like to congratulate the participants whose push-ups improved throughout the month and hopes that they will continue their journey to better health and well-being. Special congratulations to Eyad Salem for being the most improved in the Little Dragons Class (4yrs old through 6yrs old) and to Joseph Sanchez for being the most improved in the Beginner Preteen Class (7yrs old through 10yrs old). To Gabriel Ciarleglio for being the most improved in the Advanced Preteen Class (7yrs old through 11yrs old) and the most improved in the Academy and to Antonio Rodriguez for being the most improved in the Junior Adult Class (11yrs old through 15yrs old). “Our programs at the Academy of Kempo are not just about the punch and the kick it’s about becoming the best you can be in everything you do,” said Ciarleglio.
