What It Takes To Achieve

On September 12, 2007 students from the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden received their new ranks. There were children, junior adults and adults from Hamden, and Woodbridge in the belt promotion. The students were tested on their Martial Arts material, which is broken down into three categories, traditional, practical and competitive Martial Arts. The Traditional Martial Arts is where the students demonstrate how much they have gained in their body strength, conditioning and flexibility by going over the designated patterns learned for each level, the Practical Martial Arts is where the students demonstrate their self-defense movements and how well they handle themselves in a simulated situation and the Competitive Martial Arts is where the students demonstrate their Martial Arts movements in more of a free style. Sparring is a major part of this and it is where the concentration is on skill and movement as well as timing and distances, very important concepts to understand for the Practical portion of the Martial Arts. At the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts it not just about the punch and kick, the children are also tested on how well they have been doing with the rule of the school, which are self-control, self-discipline and respect. The children go through an extensive character development program, which monitors their success in these areas. Only after the student proficiently demonstrate that he/she has all the required Martial Arts materials and are moving adequately for their ranks, as well as the children demonstrating improvement in the rules of the school are they promoted to their new ranks. The Academy of Kempo Martial Arts would like to congratulate these students for their achievements.
