The Girl Scout Troop 1224 in Hamden lead by Maria Anthony, Cassandra Simmons and Ines Weyel received their Martial Arts Badge on Friday May 4, 2007. Sensei Frank Ciarleglio and Assistant Instructor Carrie Meyer from the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts in Hamden met with the troop and taught the girls some self-defense and spoke of safety rules when approached by a stranger. The Girl Scout Troop was very receptive of the new material and did very well in both the mental and physical portion of their Martial Arts lesson. It is very important for a young lady to be able to defend herself in a situation, but self-defense is not just dealing with a physical confrontation, itís also learning how to deal with a verbal confrontation. The best defense is to avoid a situation, but when all else fails it is important to know how to defend yourself. These young ladies received basic instructions on how to handle themselves and how to avoid a situation. Congratulations to Girl Scout Troop 1224 on overcoming another one of lifeís hurdles. For more information on joining the Girl Scouts please contact Maria Anthony at 203-248-0566.
